You only need a one day outing to visit each of Silesia’s major sights, because Lomnica is so conveniently situated for travel. Begin with the Hirschberg Valley and the Giant Mountains. Here you can experience the symbiosis of a magnificent mountain world with its alpine character with the lonely sweet nature of the Hirschberg Valley.
You can take day-long hikes from Lomnitz through the varied landscape of the Valley with its secluded Castles.
There is not enough space here to list all the many sights of Silesia with its castles, fortresses, churches, cloisters and towns. Alone the three royal Prussian summer residences of Karpniki / Fischbach , Myslakowice/Erdmannsdorf or also Wojanów / Schildau (very close to Lomnica) make the connoisseur’s heart beat faster. Of course, the Silesian metropolis of Wroclaw must be mentioned here, and what would a trip to the Jelenia Góra Valley be without a stroll through the Ring at Jelenia Góra itself with its lovely arcades, and a drink from the healing springs at Bad Warmbrunn/ Cieplice.
Not only the cultural sights and the beauties of nature attract for a holiday with us, many other attractions enrich your stay. It is well worth paying a visit to the Miniature Park of the Lower Silesian Monuments in Schmiedeberg/Kowary. On the way there don’t forget to stop at the factory shop of the linen factory at Erdmannsdorf/Myslakowice. Artistic crystal glassware and the popular Bunzlau ceramics at good prices are also on offer. Or what do you think of a round air trip over the Castles and Park landscape of the Valley? The airfield just a few kilometres away offers just that.
Here on the spot we can give you many more suggestions and recommendations for planning your holiday. We’d like to show just a few examples for outings here.
3 - 5 Hours:
Round trip to the Castles in the Hirschberg Valley. From Schildau/Wojanów, Boberstein/Bobrów to Fischbach/Karpniki, Buchwald/Bukowiec and Erdmannsdorf/Mysłakowice. There also a viewing of the Tirolean houses and lunchbreak eg. in the Restaurant Tirolerhof, see the small exhibition about the Protestant Tiroleans in the Giant Mountains. Stop at the linen factory in Erdmannsdorf. Carry on to Kowary/Schmiedeberg, a little town at the foot of the Giant Mountains and a stroll through the town centre. Visit the miniature park with scale reproductions of the Castles in the Hirschberg Valley. Return to Lomnitz. (total distance about 35 km)
1 Day:
Trip to Jauer/Jawor, to view the Peace Church, which is under UNESCO protection. Further to the Cloister of Wahlstatt/Legnickie Pole, where the battle against the Mongols took place. Then to Liegnitz/Legnica, walk through the town, seeing the Castle and the Piast crypt in the Jesuit Church. Further on to the Cloister of Leubus/Lubiąż on the Oder, also called the Silesian Escorial. Return via Bolkenhain/Bolków and past the Schweinhausburg/Zamek Świny to Lomnitz. (distance about 220 km)
6 Hours:
A trip along the edges of the Giant Mountains up to Agnetendorf /Jagniątkow to the Wiesenstein House, see the exhibition about Gerhart Hauptmann. Then carry on through the Giant Mountains with a view of the Kynast Fortress and the St.Anna Chapel to Krumhübel/Karpacz, viewing the church at Wang, a medieval wooden stave church from Norway, which was rebuilt in the Giant Mountains in the 19 th.Century. A visit down to Hirschberg / Jelenia Góra, and a stroll through the Ring with its lovely historical arcades and the old town, return to Lomnitz. (distance about 60 km)
1 Day:
A trip to the little weaver’s town of Chelmsko Slaskie/Schömberg with its 12 characteristic Weaver’s Houses, also known as the "12 Apostles", where Silesian linen is on offer, to the Baroque Cloister complex of Krzeszow/Grüssau to see the famous frescos by M.Wilmanns, the so-called Silesian Michelangelo. Then carry on to Castle Ksziaz/Fürstenstein, the largest Castle in Silesia, which belonged to the famous Daisy von Pless, then to Swidnica with a wander through the town. There stands one of the two remaining Peace Churches in Silesia which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. To round it off you should drive to the international Young People’s Meeting Centre in Castle Krzyzowa/Kreisau and visit the exhibition about the Kreisauerkreis. From there return to Lomnitz. (distance roughly180 km).
1 Day:
Trip to Wroclaw, the Silesian Metropolis, seeing the Rynek, the old town, the University with the Aula Leopoldina / Leopoldina Assembly Hall and the Ostrow Tumski /Cathedral Island. Don’t miss the Hala Stuletniowa and the panorama from Raclawicz. You really should try the restaurants: either in the Ratusz /Town Hall cellar, the Spiz Restaurant or the Piwnica Swidnicka. On the way back do make a stop at the Peace Church in Schwidnica (UNESCO World Heritage Site). (Total distance of 260 km) The rock formations at Adrspach and Weckelsdorf make a nature experience of a unique kind, lying half on Silesian-Polish, half on Czech territory. Especially for hikers, but also for families with children this is a one-off experience, which in many ways even outshines the Saxon Switzerland. (Distance: 150 km.)
Of course you can go straight out from the Hotel on foot and reach the most beautiful places. The following suggestion makes an easy hike, for example: through the Park along the Bober, follow the field path with its wonderful panorama of the Karkonosze /Giant Mountains over to the Castle ruins of Boberstein and from there further on to the striking Gory Sokolniki /Falcon Mountains. You can climb these and enjoy a magnificent view over the whole Valley from the mountains. At the foot of the mountains lies the former hunting lodge of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia, where you can get refreshments. Go back to Lomnica on little-frequented paths, perhaps taking a detour to the Castle of Fischbach, the former summer residence of the Hohenzollerns, still in its Sleeping Beauty slumbers. In Lomnica you have then certainly earned a cold beer or a slice of freshly baked cake.
There are so many hiking possibilities all around us, that it is impossible to mention them all here. You can get good walking maps at the Hotel, which indicate the paths very well, so that you could just set off into the blue and find your way.
You can find many good tips and suggestions in the numerous guidebooks published by Kulturforum Östliches Europa Potsdam: The Silesian Elysium by Arne Franke and guidebooks from Dumont, Marc o Polo etc.
